Tips to live a zero waste life
Waste not, Want not – are words that we all should live by. On an individual level, there is a lot that can be done when it comes to being more environmentally responsible. If more of us took small steps, our collective contribution will go a long way to making Earth a cleaner planet.
Consistency is key as ingrained habits will ensure the decisions, we make in our everyday lives have a lasting impact.
Start off by using reusable material. Limit the use of disposable plastics by caring around a reusable bottle and grocery bag. As a consumer, you can make this simple eco-friendly choice. Take a trash audit as there’s a good chance that you can do without certain things. Remember: the less you consume, the less you will waste. Another great tip is to buy in bulk. If you’re saving the planet, why not help your wallet? Small items accumulate the amount of packaging used increasing the amount of waste. Also consider shopping local. The local farmer’s market is less likely to use as much plastic wrap and your support would be appreciated.
Finally, do your best to reduce your use of paper. In today’s world, going digital will make the difference. Cancel all your paper bills and consider digital subscriptions. While you’re at it, ditch the paper towels. Use sponges and reusable and washable cloths instead. Believe it or not but you will contribute towards diverting millions of pounds of paper waste each year.
We often expect major corporations and governments to take care of the environment but the truth is these massive behemoths are made of normal people who make binary decisions. Why leave our planet up to them? Let’s all pitch in and raise the bar for environmental sustainability.
